Crossmint and Harbor Partner to Bring Insurance to Agentic Payments

Harbor has partnered with Crossmint to build insurance for AI agents that buy through Crossmint Agent Checkouts.

Agents are starting to shop, book and buy on our behalf. The payment part is being solved: with Agent Checkouts, any agent can complete a purchase through one API, without ever seeing your real card.

With this partnership, builders using Crossmint Agent Checkouts and Agentic Cards will be able to have their agents insured by Harbor, so users are covered when an agent makes a bad purchase. Harbor coverage will come to Agent Checkout customers of Crossmint.

Why this partnership

Agents now act with real money. They book, restock and check out without a human clicking confirm.

But agents make mistakes. They pick the wrong size, order ten units instead of one, or fall for a fake store. When that happens, the usual protections don’t apply. It isn’t fraud, because the user authorized the agent to pay. It isn’t a chargeback, because the merchant delivered exactly what was ordered. The purchase is valid, and the money is gone.

Someone ends up paying: the user. As long as that’s true, users keep agents on tight limits and builders keep a human approving every purchase. That gap is what holds agentic commerce back, and it’s where Harbor comes in.

Securing how agents pay

Crossmint Agent Checkouts let an agent complete a purchase end to end, with Crossmint as merchant of record handling returns and chargebacks. Crossmint Agentic Cards give every agent its own payment credential instead of the user’s card. The real card stays in a PCI-compliant vault. The agent gets a single-use credential tied to its identity on the card network, within the spend limits and merchant categories the user sets. Users can revoke access at any time and keep their card rewards.

That secures how an agent pays. It doesn’t decide whether the agent bought the right thing.

Securing what agents buy

Harbor covers what the agent buys. Before an agent is insured, Harbor audits it. Once it’s live, Harbor monitors how it buys using Crossmint’s transaction data.

If an insured agent buys the wrong thing, like the wrong item, the wrong quantity or something from a fake store, the user is covered. The cost of the mistake no longer falls on the user or the builder.

That’s the unlock. Builders can give their agents bigger budgets and let them buy without a human approving every purchase.
